Beschreibung The Pinan Lakes - Trekking - Otavalo - Ecuador

Lagunas, mountains, scenery and every now and than a local farmer. Is this not what trekking is about? If you agree the Pinan Lake Trek is something for you. It is about 45km long. Possible to do in just 3 days. However, there are so many nice spots to camp. Easy to hang out much longer. And, there are 3 mountains that would be possible to climb as well.

The guidebook offers a nice map and a description of the trek. However, we had a hard time to find our way with this book. We got totaly lost on the last day. At the end we took the obvious valley that you can see easily from the Laguna Burracocha. Sometimes no official trails, just made by cows. But after all we found our way back into civilization. Once back there we got a ride to Ibarra.

There are those three mountains to climb as well. Volcan Yanaurco de Pinan - 4535m, Yanaurco - 4421m and Cerro Chimborazo - 4260m. We had bad luck with the weather and were only able to ascend Cerro Chimborazo. Please check out Cerro Chimborazo.

Take a bus from Ibarra to Cahuasqui, in the afternoon some even go to San Francisco
camps are possible at many places, water is no problem, many lagunas
Approach / Zustieg
ask at San Francisco for the correct trail, guidebook or map needed
Descent / Abstieg
no idea where we went after we left the Laguna Burracocha,
