Beschreibung Monte San Lorenzo Trek - Parque Nacional Perito Moreno - Patagonia - Argentina

According to a climbing book Monte San Lorenzo is to most beautiful mountain in Patagonia if not from South America. Thought that might be a bit too much. However, it made us doing the trek. Following the Rio Lacteo on can see a huge mountain in the back. We thought this is Monte San Lorenzo, indeed a nice mountain. Out of a sudden we saw a huge mountain in a valley to our left. The mountain got bigger and bigger and it gave us the shiver! We have not seen something impressive like this since the Cordillera Blanca in Peru! The southern face of San Lorenzo is so huge and steep. Around 3000 Meters drop from the summit to the Laguna de los Tempanos

The trail to the Puesto San Lorenzo is mostly flat with some little up and downs. You can stay in the river bed after the fence. However, you might end up scrambling up the loose banks of the river if you can not cross it. After all this way is faster! The Puesto San Lorenzo seemed to be a home for gold diggers. One can make a cosy fire but sleeping in the hut might be not so nice. There are mice and rats! Rather bring your tent!

The day hike to the Laguna de los Tempanos is a must! It takes about 4 hours round trip. The south wall gets even more impressive from there. The trail is easy to find once you have crossed the Rio Hermoso. With a bit luck you will even meet climbers at the Puesto los Escaladores.

As always in Patagonia there is the weather. We were very lucky and had 2 days of sun with not much rain on the way back. However, in November climbers waited for a whole month for good and stable weather.
